Speech 301 - Professor Shrope-Austin (Spring 2020): Finding Newspaper Articles

Opposing Viewpoints

Opposing Viewpoints is a great library database to use to find recent news articles.

If you're using library databases off-campus, you'll have to login with your eServices info but you won't run into any pesky paywalls. :)

Here's how to find newspaper articles that were published in the last six months inside of Opposing Viewpoints.

  1. Run a simple search - using three keywords or less.
  2. Then filter your results to "Newspapers"

  1. Then on the top right side of side of the screen, filter the publication dates to the last 6 months and click on "Apply".

Additional Library Databases

I would only suggest using the databases below if you can't find the two news paper sources you need in either AllSides or Opposing Viewpoints.

Don't forget to filter out all results that are older than six months!

AllSides is a great news website that presents news stories from a variety of side (biases).

Another awesome benefit of AllSides is that you can browse article titles from various newspapers to find out what you want to read from a particular newspaper before you hit a paywall.

Below is a cool chart from AllSides that shows the general bias of various news publications.
