ENGWR 302 - Professor Knox (Spring 2021): Newspaper Databases

What Should I Do on This Page?

US Major Dailies provides articles to several of the nation's major publications, and Newspaper Source Plus provides access to an assortment of regional, national, and international news sources.

Follow the steps outlined in the two databases on this page to limit your results to editorials on your topic.  A screenshot outlining those steps is also below.

You can also watch a brief video of how to navigate each of these databases.

Have a Question?

If you have any questions about how to evaluate online sources, you can email me at harrism@arc.losrios.edu, access the 24/7 Chat Service, or contact any one of the other ARC librarians.

US Major Dailies

Follow these steps to locate editorials in US Major Dailies:

  • Click on "Advanced Search"
  • Type in your keyword(s) (e.g. immigration)
  • Change the "Publication date" to "After this date"
    • Type "2010" for the year
  • Under "Document Type", select "Editorial"
  • Click "Search"

NOTE: If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed by the number of results you received, try adding more relevant keywords.  For example, ask who, what, when, and/or where as it relates to your topic.  For example, as it relates to immigration:

  • Is there a specific community or demographic you want to focus on?  What aspect of the immigration do you want to focus on?  Is there a specific time period year you want to explore? Do you want to focus on immigration in a specific country or region?
