Search Tricks

  • 3-5 keywords often works well
  • Try different keywords (think synonyms)!
    • Example:
      • budget
      • funding
      • fiscal
      • financial
  • You'll likely need to try multiple searches to find what you need
  • Look for keywords in your search results

Search Trick

Parentheses and Or: Use these around keywords separated by the word "or" to expand your search with synonyms. Putting "or" between words means that either term (or both) will be returned in the search.

  • (budget OR funding OR fiscal OR financial)
  • ("global warming" OR "climate change")
  • (housing OR homelessness)

Example Searches

Example Topic: It will take time, funding, innovation, and coordination to end the homelessness crisis

Example Searches:

  • homelessness California
  • (housing OR homelessness) California
