Why Use OneSearch?
OneSearch can search just about all of the Los Rios Libraries databases simultaneously. So you can find the best books and eBooks, academic articles, news articles, videos and more in one simple search!
Remember to take advantage of the limiters on the left of your search results where you adjust your results by publication date, resource type (e.g. articles, newspaper articles, etc.), to ensure you are getting current and relevant resources!
How to Use OneSearch?
1. Watch the OneSearch in One Minute video.
2. Start by using the 1-3 keywords that you used in the preliminary databases, but now you can also
add more relevant keywords to refine your topic (see the Search Tips box below).
3. NOTE: If you're not familiar with OneSearch, consider completing the tutorials below; they're short and will give you some great practice
Use OneSearch to find:
Interviews with the photographer, critiques about the work:
Research the social/historical context of the period:
NOTE: The asterisk (*) will produce results that include the root word (e.g. criti* = critique, criticism, criticisms, etc.).
Title: Migrant Mother, Nipomo, California
Photographer: Dorothea Lange
Use OneSearch to find:
Interviews with the photographer, critiques about the work, and/or research about the characters portrayed in the work:
Research the social/historical context of the period:
Play around with the keywords to find gems like this one from the Art Education journal.
NOTE: The asterisk (*) will produce results that include the root word (e.g. criti* = critique, criticism, criticisms, etc.)
Search Tips:
Using Parentheses: Use these around keywords separated by the word "OR" to expand your search and get more results.
Example: dating (underage OR legal minor)
In the example above, we are running two searches at once:
dating underage and dating legal minor.
Using the Asterisk (*): Use this to shorten a word and search for all possible endings of a root word. This will give you more results
Example: poverty child*
This is searching for the keyword poverty and the keywords: child, children, childhood, etc.
OneSearch doesn't offer many resources for interviews or critiques about Isaiah Taber, but a Google Search will yield some info about his life and career, with searches like these:
But you can use OneSearch to learn more about the social/historical context of the period Taber produced this image:
NOTE: The asterisk (*) will produce results that include the root word (e.g. criti* = critique, criticism, criticisms, etc.)
