ENGWR 300 - Professor Arellano (Fall 2024): OneSearch: Books & Articles

What Should I Do on This Page?

What is OneSearch and Why Should I Use It?

OneSearch is a research tool that searches the majority of the Los Rios Libraries databases simultaneously, so you can find the best books and eBooks, academic articles, news articles, videos and more in one simple search!

How Do I Use It?

View the "Sample Search for Automation Employment" below to see how to search for the following keywords: automation employment

Still Have Some Questions about How to Use It?

Watch the OneSearch in OneMinute video to learn more about how to use this powerful tool.

Here's the Fun Part

Practice what you've learned by inputting the 1-3 keywords you used in the other databases into the OneSearch Box search field.

You can also add more relevant keywords to refine your topic (see the examples in the OneSearch Tips box).

NOTE:  If you'd like to dive deeper into OneSearch and explore more of its features and options at your own pace, consider completing the OneSearch tutorial found under the Tutorials tab.

OneSearch Tips

Search Tips:

  • 3-5 keywords often works well
  • Take advantage of the limiters inside of OneSearch
  • Try different keywords (think synonyms)

Using Parentheses: Use these around keywords separated by the word "OR" to expand your search and get more results

Example: undocumented student (college OR university)

In the example above, we are running two searches at once:

undocumented student college OR undocumented student university

Using the Asterisk (*): Use this to shorten a word and search for all possible endings of a root word. This will give you more results

Example: undocumented child*

This is searching for the keyword distance learning and the keywords: child, children, childhood, etc.

NOTE: The asterisk * will bring back multiple results (e.g. child* = child AND children AND childhood...)
