ENGWR 300 - Professor Bains (Fall 2015): Find Books & Articles

Search Terms!

When looking for books and articles, the most important factor in finding good results is using good search terms. This can be tricky, because there are lots of ways to say the same thing. Tips:

1. Start with 2-4 search terms. The more terms you use, the fewer results you will find.

2. Start broad. Figure out what the main concepts of your topic are, and use those as search terms.

3. Look for better search terms within the results you find.

4. Think about whether there is another way to say what you mean. For example, if you're researching global warming, don't forget to also try the term "climate change."

5. Don't include small "filler" words like "to," "of," "for," etc.

Databases to Try
