Recommended Reading: Banned Books: Fiction, Non-Fiction, and Plays

Background

Works of fiction and non-fiction have both been banned over time. The American Library Association dedicates a section of their website to banned and challenged books.  Within that there are sections on Frequently Challenged Books and the Top Ten Most Challenged Book Lists. The books listed below were found on these sites, information on why and where these books were banned is also provided.

Plays have also been banned. Details on why these particular plays have been banned can be found at Backstage as well as within the resources from ALA that are listed above.
