Very Short Introductions is a series of brief books on a variety of subjects written by leading scholars and published by Oxford University Press. There are currently over 700 individuals titles with an expansive range of topics. They are a great scholarly resource for getting an overview of a large subject. 

• Read Online - you can read texts online without needing to create an account. 
• Download - texts can't be downloaded in their entirety, but you can download sections by going to a section and selecting "print," then saving as a PDF. Selecting the printer icon in the upper right above the title will reformat the page to be printer/PDF friendly.
