The Films on Demand database is a dynamic resource that is updated regularly to improve usability. Screen shots are provided to give an overview. The interface you access may be slightly different from the images provided in this guide. In those cases, look for similar labels to achieve your desired goal.
The Films on Demand homepage allows you to browse featured collections including popular producers, Films of the Month, and more. Click the banner to see the featured film. Click the arrow to the right of each row reveal more films in that category, or click a featured tile to see all the films in that collection.
The Hamburger Menu in the top left reveals other browsing and searching options including browsing by subject, popular categories, and producers. The "Calendar" option shows videos relating to specific historical or awareness events in any given month. The hamburger menu also reveals the link to advanced searching options.
Enter your search term (either keyword or specific title) in the search box at the top of the homepage. Or, click the hamburger menu to access the Advanced Search link, which allows you to further customize your search.
Your results list will include segments and full videos with your search term(s) listed at the top and in your results in bold type. Results are sorted by relevance, but different sorting criteria is available in the Filter Options menu.
The Advanced Search link gives you the ability to target your search, including only seeing results that include Closed Captioning, which is required if you plan to embed the video into your online classroom or make it a required element for your students. Some advanced searching options include:
Most of your search results are segments of videos (usually 2-5 minutes), not the full-length film. The title of the full film is listed below the segment. The Filter Options link at the top allows you to filter results to show only full-length films that contain your search term(s). The time stamp in the lower right corner of the video indicates the length of the full video or segment.
